Haven Books is an English-language press that aims to put a wide range of interesting books into readers' hands. Our titles focus primarily on Hong Kong and Asian themes.
Haven Books is a founding member of the Independent Publishers of Hong Kong (IPHK), a fast expanding industry group.
Publisher Dania Shawwa Abuali was the managing editor of IMPRINT, an annual anthology of women's writing, and is a former president of the Women in Publishing Society of Hong Kong (www.hkwips.org).
She came to Hong Kong during the handover in 1997 and then worked as an equity research editor for major investment banks here, primarily for Credit Suisse.
Dania started her career in book publishing in New York City, where she edited museum publications for the Pierpont Morgan Library and pop-culture books for Universe, an imprint of Rizzoli Publishing.
She studied commerce at the University of Toronto and has a master’s degree in English literature from Northwestern University, Chicago.

Dania Shawwa was appointed to the panel of judges for the senior category of the 2007 Maple Leaf Short Story Competition, organized by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong (www.cancham.org). Former Governor General of Canada, The Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, will announce the winners of the competition at the Foreign Correspondents' Club on November 12.

Independent Publishers of Hong Kong, a new collaboration of five Hong Kong presses, presents a new vision for the Hong Kong publishing industry: books with an independent voice, yet publishers with a united one. The newly founded group, with members printing in Chinese and English, works collectively and non-competitively to create innovative ways to bring its wide range of fine-quality books to the public.
